Go to Tools > Internet Options > Use blank and OK.
Also you should't use so many security programs all at once as they might interfere and not work properly. I recommend using the following suite: a firewall, an antivirus and a spyware. If your windows version does not have a Firewall, than install one, otherwise I wouldn't let two firewalls working. Try ZoneAlarm as firewall, AVG as antivirus, and use the Spyware provided by Yahoo or choose anather one.
Go to www.FreeWWW.uv.ro , to the security page and compare all the best free security products.

if you have a anti-virus with a browser sheild(its normally a icon on the internet explorer toolbar),you will have to unlock the browser sheild while you change your homepage, but remember to lock it again after you have finished
the reason for this sheild is to stop browser hijacks(illegal change of homepage),so this is whats stoping you change your homepage
if you had a browser hijack your p.c would be suffering but you have said its running to perfection,so i doubt this is the cause
if it isnt a browser sheild problem please let me know and i will continue to try and sort this problem out for you
good luck
