I never waited for the doctor to tell me when my kids where young. even with putting them on plain milk, remember the doctor does not get up doing the night. kids today even when my where young are hungry. grape juice to to strong, give them apple juice instead. my kids are 29,28 and 25. and they did good. by the time my children where six months, I started on milk. doctors today want you to wait until they are a year old. and that is to long.

I think your doing o.k. Thats a good time to start them on diluted juice. I'm not sure about the grape juice, just the apple juicy juice.

Well to be honost I had to give my daughter juice at 2 months it was only 2 ounces at a time. She has very bad bowel problems and the juice was a natural way to help her. The doctors say 4 months and WIC says 6 months. My doctor had me give it to her like once a week. I used Prune juice or pear juice and I diluted it. You are the mommy and you know what and when your child needs something.

Juice can become a bad habit. It has a lot of sugar and can rot their teeth later on, Also causes diarreah and makes them full for beterr more nutritious foods. My son has only a max. of 1/2 cup per day, (usually less and he's two) and it is diluted. Diluting doesn't diminish the amount of sugar, it just adds water. Plus if they always have sweet drinks, it's all they want. Milk and WATER are still the best and at 4months, I wouldn't even recommend juice. Be smart, mom. It's YOU who will pay the dental bills.

My son was about 7 1/2 - 8 months old before I gave him diluted Gerber baby juice. He's almost 1 now and I still dilute it.

I started at four months with prune juice under doctors orders. My daughter was having problems going to the bathroom. She is 10 1/2 months now and I give her 2oz of juice a day. Undiluted, because if I dilute it, it takes her allot longer to drink it. I think the longer she takes to drink it, the worse off her teeth will be. She only gets water and breastmilk the rest of the day.

Mine were around four months (I gave them diluted juice), but if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have given it to them at all. It's not necessary for good nutrition and it's full of sugar. If they're hot, they can drink water.
And to add something to the answer about not waiting for doctor's approval, I think that can be fine as long as you're informed and use common sense. Obviously, cow's milk is for cows and human milk is for humans. The other poster's grown children might be fine like she says, but so what? I never wore seat belts as a kid and I'm still alive.... that doesn't mean I ignore safety guidelines for my own children.

6 months I did the 50/50 juice/water. Just make sure you are giving them juice (which juicy juice is 100% juice) and not the concentrates which are mostly sugar.

About 3 years old, I think... Juice is not a good idea for babies. And it is too early to give *anything* other than human milk (or formula) before a baby is at least 6 months old.

I started giving my boys orange juice (once a day, with breakfast) when they were a year old.
Other juices (even if they're "all natural"), grape, apple, pear, prune, etc. are nothing but sugar. Yes, it's "natural" sugar, but it's sugar nonetheless. At least orange juice contains vitamin C, fiber and potassium...other juices don't. They contain vitamin c, but it's added at the factory...it doesn't occur naturally like it does with orange juice.
