What do you think would be the good and the bad aspects? What would be different than touring by automobile or some other form of transportation?

I have friends who have gone across australia and india by bicycle and they say that its absolutely awesome!!! takes a bit longer though and your backside gets sore - but you see alot more and you get to spend quality time with those you're with and also get some excercise in the bargain :-)

I think you would have to by in excellent physical condition. I love to ride and I like to camp. Touring by bicycle would be a great way to combine the two activities. It would take a lot of planning though. You would have to map out camp sites, roads that allow non-motor vehicles, rest stop facilities, etc. You would also have to have a sturdy, durible, and yet comfotable touring bike. I have a GT Outpost Trail mountain bike that is durible, but may not be suitable for a long road trip. I can't imagine that a road racing bike would be sturdy enough to carry a lot of gear over the long haul. It does sound like fun though - as long as your legs and your butt are up it!

yes, it's so great. you see more because you're going slower and you're closer. YOu can't use interstates so you have to ride on the backroads, which are more scenic. You get to stop in lots of little towns. I think it is really great. But do some planning and take bicycle routes where the roads are designed for it. Better yet take a bicycle trail, like the katy trail in missouri, it's several hundred miles long and stops and towns along the way. there are other rails to trails etc. long bike trails are great. it's a much better way for your health and fitness. you might want to take a trailer for your tent if you are camping.
