Check to make sure your car doesn't have child locks. Open the door and look on the side of the door that is normally hidden by the door jamb. There should be a small switch that when flipped won't allow the door to be opened from the inside.

You need a car with child proof locks or a car that the driver can disengage the locks on the other three doors. Children open doors at various ages, so unless you can train the child not to, follow the instructions in preceeding sentence.
