It says my computer may be infected with spyware or "malicious software". Now I understand that bxxs5 is spyware. (Or so I heard). What can I do to get rid of this crap. It's driving me nuts!!!

Before reformatting (which will cause you to lose all your stuff) try going to Download.com and downloading SpyBot or Adaware... then do a scan of your computer and remove all the malicious content... Also make sure (if you're running a windows based PC) to check for security updates on windowsupdate!! Virus protection/software wouldn't hurt either...

If you've removed everything the spyware software finds, and virus scans detect nothing... and you STILL are getting the message, doing a recovery back to factory (reformatting) is about the only easy/cheap way left...

Well either you deleted some files off of your computer and the C:\\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll was removed when it wasn't supposed to be, it could have been a file your computer needed. I think you should format the whole computer all over again. See what happens, if that same thing keeps popping up call the computer company see what they tell you. If you cant format the computer over again, then go out and buy some spyware protection or just search for some online and buy a membership of it for monthly payments.

Hello. As far as I can guess from what you have sort of told us you have 2 seperate problems.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The first is being caused by a piece of spyware named 'BookedSpace'. Most spyware scanner should remove this wihout any problems. Run a full scan using the following if you do not have any spyware scanners. (note. A virus scanner wont nromally pick this up - it has to be an anti=spyware app).

The second problem is caused my the "messenger" service that comes with xp. Obviously it was not intended to be misused in the way it is. What is happening is the service is leaving a gateway for outside spammers/hackers to send popup messages.

Do they look similar to this?

Yes? OK this is how to stop this.

- Click start
- right click 'my computer' and click manage.
- on the left panel, dbl click 'services and applications'.
- then dbl click 'services' under that.
- On the right a long list will be displayed.
- search through for 'messenger'.
- dbl click it.
- where it says 'startup type' choose 'disabled'.
- click apply then ok.
- restart pc.

Go to: www.lavasoft.de, and look at the list on the left-hand side of the screen, then download, install and update Adaware Personal and run a spyware scan. The program is free. If you ever run across any other PC problems, all you have to do is go to: www.google.com, and type in a description of the problem, or the error message you're receiving. Or you can sign up at: www.protonic.com (free membership), and get all the answers you want via email. Good luck!

Try Spybot S&D and Adaware SE or Nortan AV. If these Show you the name of the spyware try and let the program remove it. If you cannot remove it with a program. (after re- booting it comes right back). You may need to manually remove it.

Be very carefull editing the registry and back it up first.

Download the file freely from the following link, install it. Restart your computer, u will not receive the msg at the system startup.
Also install some good antispyware. If you want to scan your computer online try using trendmicro antispyware.
Try using some anti popup too e.g. google tool bar etc.

Your workstation is nice, all this implies is that a report can't be got here upon. probably a software that starts on boot up is searching for it. you want to quit classes loading interior the historic past. click start up and run "msconfig" bypass to startup and un-verify as many of the techniques as you could. (you purely truly favor your anti-virus/protection application operating at startup) Be courageous as you could continually re-verify any that reason issues to quit operating. you'd be stunned what percentage ineffective classes are began by using application you've put in.

google panda antivirus. You can download their service for free. It is good for a month. I had a similar problem, and I am currently in my 20th day of free service. When you install it, it goes through and cleans your computer. Worked for me! I suggest try it, and see what happens!
