Some people can be very ungrateful because they see life greener if they do so. Basically they take the selfish, very personal approach in life. In other words they only think about what they think will make them happy, regardless of the effect of what they do on people around them.
If u take my experience, whoever you are dealing with, always put in mind that they might become ungrateful one day. (sometimes just like that do to day to day stress)
Always be prepared that this day might come.
Best partners are dogs. even if u r ungrateful to them, they will always be grateful to u as it cant even imagine the day u're not there. I mean this is the difference between humans and animals.
So always be prepared that anyone could sooner or later become ungrateful to u.
Always remember, as we grow up, responsibilities increase, so basically we are preparing ourselves to meet the future surprises that we don't know whether they will come or not.
So knowing that people can be ungrateful is not a scoop that we take our precautions.
Take Care

I have noticed in our society that manners have eroded. But I have to wonder after reading your questions again, if you are doing things for others with an expectation of having your own needs fulfilled? That doesn't excuse bad manners, but it is true that when we give, we shouldn't expect anything more than a thank you from the recipient. To expect more is putting a gift in the category of a bargaining chip and not a true gift.

Basic minimum courtesies are disappearing in the fast changing world. Whether anyone likes it or not, religion plays a great role in destroying the self-centred actions of us and be kind and helpful to others which naturally leads to grateful also to others.

I've had this happen many times too. I think it's because some people are just plain selfish and rude. They actually believe they're entitled to everything they can get without having to work for it.

The more we do for others, the more we are making them dependant. At some point, they resent the dependance upon others and when they try to be their own person, it comes off as 'you are wrong, I did nothing wrong' type of thinking. Justification is one of the most overdeveloped abilities in human consciousness.

Actually, I think most people are generally unaware of their surroundings -- the thoughts of feelings of others, especially if they are being served. Their minds are just preoccupied with other concerns.

If you are in the service line...like a waiter or sales personnel...people usually are not grateful! If you are a nurse and you took care of them well...and they recovered and walked out of the Hospital well and sound and they are not grateful!
Do you mean ...your friends or someone you know?

Gratefulness is a great lesson to learn.Yes, another lesson I learned late. When one is grateful, it's just one step closer to spirit. have a great day. Hey, how about teaching gratefulness to others through example? Let's try it.

Some people have a problem accepting help - it probably makes them feel inadequate. So, instead of being grateful, they feel shamed/guilty for needing assistance.
