Sure! It was all set in advance! Zizou could have shot the other guy and still win the golden ball.
FIFA should be ashamed, as they denied the young player award to Cristiano in spite of him being the most voted, on the grounds of "bad example by diving". So I take it Zizou is a good example...

Just want to summarize and clarify some of the previous points.
A) Voting is done by the media, FIFA has nothing to do with it.
B) Voting went until midnight Sunday, AFTER the game, everyone voting knew about the headbutt.
C) Much like the NHL, this sport expects (but does not condone) this type of behaviour, it doesn't require a league investigation, they have a penalty built in for it, the automatic red card. This should in no way affect voting for MVP.
D) While the Italian defenseman was incredible, Italy played a team game. France would not have been there without Zizou. He clearly deserved it.
E) It's too bad coaches can't receive the Golden Ball, without a doubt Jeurgen Klinsman would have been the recipient.

I believe that Cannavaro should have won the golden ball. He has been so solid in defence in all of the games. In all fairness Zidane displayed some amazing skills on the ball but at times and in particular during the early stages of the tournament he was a bit patchy, while Cannavaro gave 110% throughout. The golden ball is an award awarded to the most outstanding player. Awarding Zizou this award means dubbing him as the ultimate best player in this World Cup. How can he be the ultimate outstanding best after that one disgraceful action he committed against Materazzi in the finals ten minutes before whistle with an estimated 30 billion people watching? I do respect Zidane as a player and we mustn't forget his huge contribution to football over the decade, but I don't think he deserved to win. A good player should always represent his country and himself in good light. That's just my opinion.

i dont know what new programs you people have been watching but the BBC, and by the way the BBC is recognized as the most unbias and reliable news agency in the world today, is aying that the winner was detemined at half time, to even think different would be stupid, think about it, fifa would not let him go up and collect medal (which was disgusting and showed no regard for the millions of football fans watching that wanted the opportunity to say goodbye), the media have been the harshest critics of zidane and i think had they the chance would take back the award sooner than you can say "political scandal" he was the best player of the championships that is undoubted, he is by far the player of his generation, i love him, meagon loves him and if you ask any true fan of football then they will tell you the same,

Ok, firstly FIFA doesn't determine who wins the golden ball. That's determined by the media. And secondly the votes were taken before the final game, so going into the game Zizou had already won the golden ball... The results just weren't announced until this morning... But anyway here were the results.
Zidane polled 2012 points in the vote by journalists covering the tournament, beating Italians Fabio Cannavaro (1977 points) and Andrea Pirlo (715 points) in the ballot.

I doubt that the FIFA wants to hide the truth about the racial comments said to Zidane from Matirazzi by bargaining Zidane with the golden ball IN EXCAHNGE FOR him shutting up & not saying anything to the media
but I can`t be quite sure

The votes are determined by journalists and it closed on midnight last night (after the game).
Zidane definitly deserved the win because he is a legend and will stay so even after what he did. FIFA had nothing to do with it!

NOO WAY! zidane SO deserved the golden ball award! he is a legend and no one even remotely measured up to him in the world cup! italy definently had a strategy to get zidane kicked out of the match before it came down to pks and they had materazzi say something rude to zidane...probably repeatedly....and zidane got so mad that he gave materazzi what he deserved. zizou is a legend and fifa has nothing to do with it.

no.. zidane really did play well during this worldcup.. and i respect that even though the headbutt in the final was uncalled for and the red card was well-deserved. he led his team to the finals, and he should be given credit for it.. even though im definitely not a zidane or a french fan, i congratulate him.. recieving the golden ball is a great way to end his amazing career.
