Well, I haven't got a convincing answer yet. Anyway, the kid is keen on doing his 'A' Level. Will this help him or hinder him in future?

English, Maths and Double Science are compulsory subjects for GCSE. The options he has are any of the other subjects (and if he's a budding scientist, he can also take Separate Sciences, which is just more science lessons and an extra GCSE). He has four options (Seperate Sciences counts as one, if he wishes to take it). I would recommend at least one foreign language (unless he absolutely sucks at languages), and the other three should be subjects he likes or is good at. Does he know what he wants to be when he's older. Because he's good at maths, he's probably going to be in the technology/accountancy sectors, so IT or Business Studies might be good ideas, too. However, like I said, he should choose the subjects which he likes or is good at (preferably the latter). If somehow there's a subject which he both likes and is good at, he should unquestionably go for it!
