I was interested in adding a central air condition system to my house. We have no existing ductwork because we have basboard heat. How would the system be added and is there a ballpark estimate for the work? I live in a split level built in 1960 with about 1560 square feet. Any help is appreciated.

I would need more details what kind of ceiling and attic space or basement space do you have or dont have and what part of the country do you live back east or out west. West is 400 sq feet per ton so you would need a 4 ton air conditioner but back east a 3 ton would work and then what seer rating do you want 12 13 14 16 or beyound will play a role in price the bigger the seer rating the more efficient the unit meaning your power bill will be less. If you want you can email me at ditzhitz@yahoo.com I am an ac guy for life>

I had this same situation with our house, hot water heat, with baseboards.

The a/c guys said they would have to actually install ductwork for the a/c

No estimate to help you because our house was 3000sf and probabally needed more ductwork and more tonnage on the actual unit as well.
