The mathematical and physical techniques so far were unable to create such a model. The only two models developed is the constantly and ever growing universe until it reaches the "heat death"[1], or universe that expands all the way up, then contracts back to a singularity and then repeats[2].
If you feel like developing a different model based on different physical laws -- go ahead, I and others will seriously consider your model if you support it with rigorous mathematical calculations, and physical observations.

The current estimate of the age of the (observable) universe is 13.7 BY. A few decades ago there was speculation that the universe might oscillate over a 40 BY cycle or so but it has now been discovered that the expansion rate of the universe is accelerating and hence it will not collapse.
Even if the universe were oscillating, it would be an anthropomorphic error to describe this process as 'breathing' since breathing is a term applicable to organic, apart from metaphorical usage.

Scientist say the universe is "breathing" because we receive pulses that emerge from the sun. These pulses are heat expansion that occur because the sun is a gas, and is as such, spinning at different speeds the poles spin slower than the equator and the core is spinning faster than all three. This creates a pulse through our Galaxy that makes it seem like it was breathing. I cant help you beyond the Galaxy though.

Pulsation is a sign of Life, Universe is not an exception from a rule.

I'm not sure if there's any evidence for that, but it's a fun theory.
