I know ChiSox Manager (Ozzy G) was only joking after his teams 19 inning win over the BoSox last night...but does his idea seem too ridiculous to try maybe in the minors to see what it does to the game? All fans know that regular season marathons can really beat up bullpens and can really have a real detrimental effect on teams. I personally think it would be exciting and good for baseball, but I would like to see what some other baseball bums like me think too. To give it a try in some minor league system next season (to test it) is all I am proposing at this point.

hell no, Hell No, HELL NO! Baseball is still the only sport in which scoring is done by people rather than a ball (or puck), and a home run derby obviously has NOTHING to do with accomplishing a team win in the game of baseball. If you don't have enough patience to enjoy real baseball, find a new sport, or get a video game, but suggesting a HR Derby to decide extra-inning games is, in my book, heresy.

Was I too subtle?

The shootout is a awful thanks to come back to a decision a recreation that can make or spoil a communities playoff possibilities. what number circumstances has a crew neglected the playoffs by employing 1 aspect or neglected out simply by the indisputable fact that they had a tie extremely than a win? i imagine they must have an complete 20 minute, customary era length added time. If no winner after that... provide the tie. permitting the shootout awards the crew with the added perfect human being accurate line scorers or a warm goalie. Hockey is a crew recreation and must be determined as a crew. The NFL who has the same surprising lack of existence OT would not bypass for a 5 minute more suitable quarter, they provide the total 15 minute OT for finding out a recreation. Baseball is going by employing complete added innings (obviously that difficulty is distinct on the grounds that in ordinary words one crew has conceivable to score quickly.) I believe a previous poster. finding out the game with a shootout must be the same as a house run derby, 3 aspect competition or ugh... a bypass, punt and kick competition.

Absurd suggestion!! Not every team is represented at the Home Run Derby, so how could the rule be applied if the teams were entering the 16th inning, and neither team had anyone in the HR Derby? Makes little sense, just as Ozzie does most of the time.

Have to call them as I see them.

No,
Certain teams are built differently than others based on several factors such as the park they play in. Certain teams rely more on "small ball" (bunting and stealing bases) while others like the Red Sox and Yankees are more of the "wait for the big hit" type of teams. The concept of a home run derby to decide a game would favor certain teams much more than others. Imagine a Red Sox -vs- A's game decided that way, Obvious advantage - Red Sox.

No, no, no!!! The rules have worked fine for over 100 years, I still can't get over the tampering with the rules that resulted in the DH. Or making the All Star game "count". A home run derby tie-breaker would just turn the game into a big slugfest spectacle. It would encourage NL teams to start keeping a DH style player on their roster. I thought that, in light of the steroid scandal, we were trying to go back to small ball, and this would just encourage the development of "enhanced" sluggers, who are just the people I thought we were trying to get rid of. Having to work your bullpen for just this type of situation is part of the strategy of the game.

no the longer the game the more exciting, I've never been to a game that lasted over 12 innings (can't even remember if i've been to a game that lasted over 9 innings) but if I did I would stay until 3am if I had to just to see who won. I'm tired of all these 2 hr games because they hardly give you enough time to watch the game and explore the stadium thoroughly. (especially in st. louis at new busch.)

Go CARDS!!!

For the All-Star Game, maybe. Not for the regular season.
