Why does the confederate battle flag offend you? Is it because the KKK carries it on their marches? If the KKK carried an african flag instead would you want it banned also?

The confederate flag is a US flag, and a part of US history, because the confederacy is a part of the USA, and the war was a part of USA history. We cant erase things just because we don't like them, that is like the chicken that put its head in the sand. Be a man! Stand up and face things instead of running away. Its only a flag, nothing more.

Its attitudes like that that weakens the black mans spirit. Like the n word. Its only a word, so what? Are black people so weak that the mear mention of a word causes worldwide panic? Pathetic! Be men, and women. Words and symbols mean nothing at all unless you make them mean something. If blacks would have not been offended by the n work it would have died long ago. If blacks would not of taken racism so hard and faced it more like the chinese did, blacks would have excelled like the chinese in america did. They didnt sit around whinning about racism crying about how the evil whiteman is keeping them down. They went to school and got educated. They made something better for themselves instead of asking for a handout from the government.

Nothing is wrong with the confederate battleflag, the problem is with black attitudes that hate. Its called reverse discrimination. Blacks are just as much racist as whites.

Not specifically; it's just a symbol of Southern pride, remembering their days during the Civil War (or as I've heard it called when I was in South Carolina, the "War of Northern Aggresion" *snicker*). In and of itself, it isn't racist, because being one of the former Confederate States of America doesn't make an entire state a bunch of bigots. The fact that slavery was one of the big debates that precipitated the Civil War makes the Confederate flag controversial, especially when some states want to fly it on government buildings, but the flag itself is not illegal. Even if it WAS a symbol of racist ideals, it isn't necessarily illegal, any more than some groups fly flags with swastikas on them -- it's a freedom of speech thing, at that point. However, since racism itself is against Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and anti-harrassment laws, regulations and policies in all public places, displaying overtly racist symbols is typically not allowed, particularly in government buildings, and most businesses follow suit.

As to whether the Confederate flag makes some people uncomfortable, I'm sure that it does, for the above reasons as well as others. But one of the things that our nation is founded upon is that everybody has the right to express their opinion and believe what they wish, even if those opinions and beliefs offend others. I may not defend or support anyone else's words or beliefs, but I will fight tooth and nail for their right to have them.

I don't feel you should outlaw the flag, you cannot erase a part of history. People should view it as what it was,a flag used by a particular army doing what they felt was right. You could view it in today's society with different view points, but it doesn't erase the past. I don't look at the flag and see racism any more than I view the flag used by the black panthers during the 60's.

It should not be illegal, although it is objectionable. Instead, people should have the sense to not want to fly a flag of slavery and of traitors against America. The answer is to try to get those people to have sense, not to threaten them with the law.

No, it shouldn't be illegal...besides, this makes it very easy to identify ignorant people who haven't joined us in 2006. If you see someone with a rebel flag displayed, you pretty much know what you're getting into with that person.

It may be uncomfortable to black people, but it is part of our great nations history and it should be allowed to be flown on those families who lost loved ones, in rememberance.

I don't think it should be illegal. We can't deny our past by removing a flag! It should be flown as a constant reminder of our sordid past.
