As a manager, you are responsible for the actions or the lack of it in the company around the work responsibilities you are involved. Not knowing a whole lot of details about your situation, your GM may have actually done you a favor by asking you to resign v/s fire. This enables you to move on different (and hopefully better) job opportunities. It is difficult to pursue job opportunities if you are fired.
My advice is not to dwell too much on this situation, it will just create a negative mental atitude in you. Put this behind you and start looking for new job opportunities with a open, positive and fresh outlook.

I would go ahead and do what you have done and resign. It is unfair that you were asked to resign like you were when your past has shown to be great. Sounds like you would have had problems with this employer in the future because of this, and it would be better for you to find a new job. Most employers realize that one mistake or problem can usually be overcome.
You should be able to draw unemployment if you have had no other problems. I would definately do that if I were in your position.

Well, if you have been a reliable, honest & hard worker - regardless, maybe they wanted to make some internal changes within the company. They prob. wanted you to resign so they wouldn't have to pay unemployment bennies to you. At least your resume will look good with a resignation - instead of termination. You should buff up your resume, network and look for another job. You could also take classes part-time to increase your knowlege in any area that interests you. Good luck.

If you stay, they may fire you. You could retaliate and sue them under insufficient grounds for termination, however, if you do not have that your GM stated that failure would not reflect upon you, in writing, it would not hold up in court. It's possible that you could support your claim with the records that you have had good results in all other aspects, but one, but again, it may not hold up in court. Even if it did, would you want to keep working for a company who put you in this position to begin with?
I'd take the resignation as it will save your reputation and look better to future employers than being fired will.

What immediately jumped out at me reading your post was that it is full of spelling and grammar errors. As someone who would like to move up career-wise, this will be a stumbling block. Research has shown that employers rate writing skills higher than even math skills. As far as resumes are concerned, spelling and grammar skills were rated more highly than even grade average and previous work experience!
An occasional slip up may be unavoidable, but if you write with lots of errors and without paying much attention to writing correctly, people will think of you as a careless and uneducated person, regardless of whether that is true.
I would like to invite you to visit http://www.eSpindle.org, an on-line word tutoring program that could help you with the spelling part. We offer a free 10-day trial, and scholarships to disadvantaged students (we're a non-profit organization).
This program does not just throw a bunch of words at you, but tutors you based on your personal learning profile, focusing on the words that you're currently getting wrong.
Try it out and see if it helps you.
Aside from making you a confident speller, it will also help you to become more comfortable with what words mean and how they are used, increasing the vocabulary you are able to use in everyday life.
And let me know what you think, please!

Try checking with a local office of your state's employment commission, and explain exactly what happened (In other words just what you said here). They may be able to help, but do it soon or you may lose any rights you may have.
