He has helped me a lot financially this summer and I want to give him a huge chunk of change next pay check, or when I get my student loan. He doesn't want anything in return for what he's done but I kind of want to help him out, esp since I am wanting a very nice engagement ring. Should I say forget it and not give him $? Or do give him $ since I am going to be very picky w/the ring?

If he really does not desire the money, and you all are probably getting ready to get married (congratulations by the way) put the extra money you were going to give him into a savings account. This money could be so helpful during your married life or even with the wedding. And, he would probably appreciate the money later if you all really needed more so than now. :-)

Put it in a savings account.

Those first few months of marriage are TOUGH. Especially if you are a student and worse if you both are students. So, tuck it away for an emegerncy and believe me you will have one!

Engagment rings are pretty pricey. And, you should get what you want. But, is there a way to compromise? What about if you set down and calculate what you can afford...

Why would you want to pay for your own ring? If you are buyin you mine as well just get the one you want and pay for it. Sounds like if he is going about askin you for the money he doesnt even want to be engaged to you. Now if its one payment he cant make and doesnt want to mess his credit up that is one thing but not over 100 should go to it.

How about you take the money and him to the store to pick out the ring. This way you know that's what the money was spent on.
