In the 15 or so years I have been a die hard fan, I cannot remember being this angry about the team and its future. I'm sad that we didn't offer manny the #1 spot that he deserves. I'm sad that we are going to sign belfour. I'm sad shanny and stevie left. I'm sad that we signed Osgood. Is there going to be anything positive happening this offseason?

Why is Holland doing nothing though? Wouldn't you want your team to be good? Wouldn't you want to sign one or two of the decent FAs that are left.

I was upset when I heard the Shanahan story, especially after finding out the details on the contract. I understand that Yzerman was getting up there in age and it was time for him to hang up the skates as a class act. I'm glad he came back for this last season. I've never liked Osgood and I certainly won't start now, but I'm not sure who's available that would have been a good replacement. Belfour is washed up and he needs to retire (plus he's a few bricks short) and I can't imagine why we would sign him. He must be cheap and we must be desperate.

I can only take solace in remembering what happened to the Pistons a few years ago. In 2000, Detroiters were upset that Grant Hill was being traded away for a couple unknown players. We got Ben Wallace in that trade. Same in 2002, with Jerry Stackhouse and we got Rip Hamilton. I realize this isn't a trade, but freeing up the cap room, hopefully we can get someone who can make a big difference in rebuilding the team.

But yeesh, how about getting a decent goalie, eh?

I get so tired of management blaming the goalie when the Wings don't do well. It was not Manny's fault they got knocked out the first round. Manny did not play bad--he didn't play excellent--but it was not his fault. I swear EVERY year the Wings get a new goalie. The fans and management need to ease up on the goalies and focus on where the real problem is. How about the forwards that forgot how to score during the playoffs? Stevie Y will be sorely missed but it was time for him to retire, his body can not take much more. Shanny, what a shame. I am at a loss for words that we lost him. That is really going to hurt.

well, i am a big fan of the wings. i think that shanny leaving made the team younger. he was a favorite but there comes a time when an athlete needs to move on. manny is like many goalies here in detroit, he had one horrible playoff run and he was run out by the fans. he was not totally to blame for the loss. that was the whole team's fault for not playing as one unit. belfour really can't help a team. goaltending is not the problem. i think what is wrong with the wings is that they got caught up with keeping the relatively same team year after year for too long and they got too old and slow to keep up with the fasater teams in the west. now they are trying to get younger and faster. they needed to let go of a few of the players who management felt can't really help the team in the long-run. osgood is not any better than legace or belfour. what makes the goalie good in detroit is the defense. they need a better offensive forward who won't fizzle out come playoff time. wait and see before you jump to conclusions. remember it is a new era for detroit.

Belfour might not sign with the Wings,Eddie's asking for $1,000,000.00 Wings offered $500,000.00 Eddie the Eagle will just fly away from that offer and Legase will be in St.Louis by the weekend, your team is without a big league goalie,Osgood isn't a #1 anymore.

Yes there is some light at the end of the tunnel
Steve is going to be the new assistant general manager working with Ken Holland. Itlooks as if they brought Brett Lebda back from the Griffons and he shows great skill and promise.
And if they didnt get rid Of Mark Mowers then you will see some really good work from those two. Plus we still have Datsyuk and Zetterberg so I think we should be ok.

I'd be pissed if I were you too. When I hear Brendan Shanahan's name I immediately think "Red Wings" as I'm sure many other people do. Same with Yzerman.

And as a diehard/lifelong Ranger fan I can symapthize with you. It's like when Brian Leetch left the Rangers.

Anyway, Brendan Shanahan wil be embraced by Ranger fans. They'll appreciate his toughness and skill. But it's going to be REALLY strange seeing him in a Ranger uniform.

The paper says today thta it's possible the wings could pick up anson carter or sergei samsonov to try to help fill shanahans spot. Listen, we all knew this was coming eventually. We're not going to completely rebuild, be have a good core to build around, lidstrom, draper, maltby, holmstrom, zetterberg, datsuyk etc. They might not be #1 next season, but they won't suck by any means. Losing shanahan frees up a lot of cap space.

omg i'm SOOO MAD!!! but not about Manny, he can go for all I care, we were #1 and we lost to edmonton!!!!!!! i went to 2 of those games, and we won the first one and lost the second one, it is so frustrating!! i have been RAISED to love the wings and now i'm so disappointed!! I guess it was Steve Yzerman's time to go, i get that he's old and w/e, but i really hate that he's gone, i don't think we'll be NEARLY as good without him. but SHANNY?? god, that's so WRONG!! i guess it's all downhill at this point... :(

I wouldn't worry. The Wings have done worse in the offseason before and still crushed opponents. They'll do their usual great regular season and then bow out in the quarter or semifinals

Even the great teams that have been on top for so long have to stop and rebuild from time to time...this year it's the Braves in MLB and next year it'll be the Wings in the NHL.
