I would agree with the above answer concerning the destination.
Crete is a really great place with many choices of places to stay and things to do. Actually my favorite destination is Santorini island.
So if your holiday plan is about 10 days i would suggest a combination of 7 days in Crete and a 3 days in Santorini.
Daily there is a ferry connection between the two islands, and it takes about 2 hours.

I would think that would depend on several things; most people have their definition of "reasonably comfortable and not too pricy"(I am Owner of a Travel Agency):

1-Where in Greece do you want to go?
2-How many?
3-Your Travel Budget?
4-Checkin/checkout dates?

It is very easy to say, "Go to the Hilton in Athens" or "I really liked the Radisson in Rhodes", etc. The problem with that is that people, for the most part, recommend based on their preferences which may or may not mirror yours. Depending on the above 3 issues(minor for sure but important because it helps you narrow down what is available), it is very possible that there are Hotels in Greece that meet your wants and needs. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your criteria, I can sift through the many Hotel options currently available and hopefully help you make an informed decision.

Crete, Greece. See my 360 page for some pictures.

An apartment with kitchenette will go for about $30,- a night. Youth hostel (no age limit) for EUR 8,00 ($10,-). A small meal the same.

Beaches are great and untouched by the latest bushfire. Can go horseriding through the olive fields, sailing etc. Car rental from EUR 25,- a day.

I suggest my favorite spot ... Skopelos Island in the Sporades. The island is the best of Greece ... green, small (40 sq. miles), quiet (but certainly not dead), lots of places to walk, explore with scooters or little fiats ($15 a day), the best music and dancing (starting at midnight), no bugs, no humidity, and great beaches. It reminds me of where I grew up -- Carmel and Big Sur -- but warmer. Del Sol has small and large apartments near town with balcony views to the Aegean for $30 a night and up. They also have tennis courts, gardens, a pool looking out on the water, and even a taverna with the best food in town. Look them up through www.delsol.com. There's a fantastic art foundation on the Island as well (www.skopart.org). Visit my virtual homage to the Island at www.theasite.homestead.com.
