get audiocity very good free music software http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ there are free plugins that you can then download, drum machines and that sort of stuff, I used it to record a friend and it was really really good quality.

There used to be a program you could download called Fruity Loops which allowed you to basically create any kind of music and add whatever voice tracks to it. This site will allow you to download a full working demo to try it out.

I use it and it can get complicated, but with some diligence you can make some great music.

fruity loops is a good one. Just google it and you should find it.
