Ebay or a pawn shop

First, a listing:

It seems it could be worth around $1000

If you look under Classifieds on that site, there are a fair few links to other sites where you might like to advertise. Classified ads are probably better and safer than eBay, though one still needs to be cautious, of course. Bear in mind that MOST people are honest!

I think I would put small ads in several suitable magazines. (You may be more familiar with what is read out there than I am.) It depends where you are but London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow would be places where you could find music shops capable of advising on an instrument of this quality.

There are, I feel sure, auctions run by the music business and Sotheby's may well have musical instrument auctions from time to time. I understand your wariness about online auctions but, provided one takes adequate precautions, such as seeing that a cheque has cleared before parting with the goods, they are quite a good marketplace.

dont take it to a pawnshop, they wont give you crap. I have started a business selling on Ebay, and made over a grand last week. If your guitar is actually worth something, you'll get more for it on Ebay than you will at a music shop, pawn shop, or consignment store. Trust me on this. I have played music for 14 years, play sax, guitar, and various other instruments. Ebay that sucker or list it in the newspaper.

It would help to know where you live. In Nashville, TN they have pawn shops owned by musicians, where they will actually give you what the instrument is worth. But they probably only have those places in music centers (NY, LA, etc.).

Don't just sell it at a regular pawn shop. They don't know what they are buying and they will rip you off.

A Pawn Shop

Advertise in your local newspaper. Post a for sale notice on a community bulletin board. Have your friends tell their friends that you want to sell your guitar. E-bay. A pawn shop will buy it, but will not pay a good price for it.
Your local guitar shop may take it on consignment or buy it also.

OMG! :) I sold a Gibson guitar on ebay and was soooooooooooo happy with what I earned and the transaction went so well. Don't be afraid because you'll get more on there than almost anywhere else.

my close friend has sold and bought many guitars on ebay without hitch.

just make sure you list it fairly, package it well & insure it through the post for what it is worth at least.
