Yes he does, best player in the tournament by a mile, the only truly talented player who actually turned up and showed ability. where were the Ronaldinhos and Henrys and the rest of the prima donnas who people always say are the best in the world, an old man showed them all how to do it. To the people who are saying cannavaro should have won it all i would say is which player would you pay money to see.

the golden ball prize is decided during half time in the world cup final and it always has done so fifa have shot themselves in the foot for their arrogance by not giving the many, many zidane fans out there a chance to say goodbye to him, he played in the game and should have been allowed to collect his medal like everybody else, figo headbutted van bommel and he did not get half of the stick from the meda, whatever te media says does not matter, its us that count the fans, and zidane has given true football fans many hours of entertainment, he is also a role model for young footballing talent throughout the world, zidane deserves the golden ball and he deserves more respect from the media too, their actions have been disgraceful but as long as we, the fans of the beautiful game remember him for right reasons then that is all that counts, the best man of a generation, lets hope ronaldinho can be half as good as zidane was, it was a sad day yesterday, the game lost one of its truly great players

NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Cannavaro did. I'm not against Zidane. If you read some of my answers here, I mention that Zidane is kind of God of Soccer. But his attitude is really bad. It worst than Rooney. So golden ball should give to runner up, Cannavaro.

Absolutely Not, it was given to him only for his accomplishment in his career. He is a great quarterback who directs his team, but without the talent of Henri in the front he is limited! All great players should also have sportsmanship which he lacks, whatever Materassi said to him you don't head butt the guy with 10 mins left in the worldcup Game, provoking to get you off your game is part of strategy, then you hurt your team which happened..Canavarro deserved the MVP, he controlled to me one of the best players in the world Henri..

Yes! Yesterday's one off incident can not steal away some of his wonderful achievements for his country including their place in the finals last night. I do feel sorry that the man cannot hold up this prize with his head held high.

I think the media, along with most French fans, felt sorry for poor Zidane. That's why he won.

Absolutely. The man was a legend even before this cup and he showed that he still has the magic. Yes, the headbutt was stupid but that doesn't take away from his amazing talent.

Well actually........ he doesn't.
It is just a tribute that has been given to him for his career performance, not for his performance at the WC 2006.
there were many much more deserving players such as Klose(GER), Maxi(ARG) and Crespo(ARG)
