Maybe the creator of this idea can say a few words about his big picture of Answers.

I don't really know names, and I'm sure there wasn't one person who just got a wild idea and ran with it -- the entire Yahoo! management team probably had some say in the creation of Yahoo! Answers. I can say, however, how the idea probably arose -- it's in response to sites like Wikipedia. It makes sense when you think about it: Wikipedia takes submissions of information from anybody who signs up, about anything. Entries for subjects are constantly being modified, with the idea that eventually, everything that can be said about a subject will be said, and any errors will be corrected by subsequent posters (this doesn't always work with topics currently under debate; I believe the entry for "evolution" undergoes about 10,000 changes every month, with some people changing the entire entry to say something like "...a false belief in magical changes to animals and plants and refusal to believe in higher powers" or something to that effect)

The one problem with Wikipedia (aside from people randomly changing entries, like I mentioned) is that it only has information on the stuff that the posters are interested in. So the information that YOU personally are looking for when you visit Wikipedia might not be there, even though there might be hundreds of people on the web who know at least a little something about the subject. Thus, Yahoo! Answers fills that void -- there is some direction to the information that people post. People with some knowledge of your question now know it's what you're looking for, and can provide their input. It's up to you to figure out what information is correct and accurate -- that's why it's so important that people post their sources as well as their knowledge/opinion.

One possibility:

Yahoo answers may have been created as a part of the governments TOTAL INFORMATION AWARENESS project at the NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY and the pentagon.

they want to know everything everyone is thinking. what better way than this?

The other answer is that some geek was bored and this is the new version of game show trivia.... you decide.

(It could also be a marketing survey tool)

"i'd let human beings record trolls yet compared to yahoo i wouldnt provide a contravention to each and each and every record i'm getting." Then what may be the point of letting human beings record the trolls in the journey that they did not get violations? this question type of confuses me, yet i'd bypass on your website if there became lots a lot less drama.
