In a private adoption prior to birth the birth mother can ask for "reasonable" expenses for food and lodging and maternity clothing. That generally is discussed between the parties. Bless you for the decision you have made.

Are you going through an agency? When I applied to adopt I was told that part of our expenses were medical expenses for the birth mother and then the agency pays directly to the doctor and hospital. I don't know about maternity clothes - never thought of that but you might also want to try a second hand shop if you can't get the financial help you need.

I hope you have adequate legal representation. You need to be careful about your rights. You certainly should have full medical cost coverage and then possibly some financial support. It really depends on your agreement but this should be set by a lawyer or agency to make sure that it is not contested or debated after-the-fact.

Please don't assume that a person's word is enough. I have made that mistake too many times in my life. Even people you think would never renege on a promise, sometimes will. Have your agreement legally set, signed, and sealed.

Bless you!

I think that anything that is necessary for the birth mom while she is pregnant is just fine. Maternity clothes are just fine ( in moderation)

Did you work this out as part of your contractual agreement? If you are given money, you should be able to use it for what you want. Not enough details to determine what rights you have legally or not.
