All the vociferation by English fans that Figo should be out of the Portugal-England because of his soft headbutt to a Dutch player but now the same who crucified Figo are defending Zidane... Bunch of hypocrits...

Wandering Cat, get a clue! Figo's passes originated most of the Portuguese goals in this tournament.

All right dudes, I don't condone violence but I didn't see Materazzi physically harassing Zidane, whilst Van Truck DID pinch Figo's cheeks in contempt! VERY different situation!

Magsy, I'm entitled to my opinion like everryone else here. And about kicking a ball, well, I'm a woman, so, yeah I did but many years ago.

Enfim... O que havemos nos pequeninos fazer?

It's amazing how many dumb people respond here who really have no idea what they are talking about. I'm not saying everyone. The first response was the worst from the idiot who said Portugal wasn't going to win it anyway. They were clearly on of the favorites. Lets not forgot the made it to the final of Euro 2004 First off Figo's headbutt was nothing like the Torpedo that Zidane did. He barely touched the guy. After the headbutt the guy paused for a second and then reacted and flopped to the ground. Figo's headbutt was looked at by FIFA. FIFA released a statement about it. Their reason for not suspending him for any matches was that the referee clearly saw what happened and felt he only had to caution (yellow card) Figo. Becuase it was dealt with on the field there was no action to be taken by FIFA. That was the summary of their statement. Had the referee not seen the headbutt or had he given a red then you can be sure they would have given him a suspension. As far as the dutch player there was nothing to investigate he was just grabbing Figo's arms if I'm not mistaken. It's been several weeks now and I don't feel like finding the video.

i just answered a question by someone who thinks there should be a rematch because materazzi pinched zidane's nipple. like... zidane's incredible soccer career came to an end pretty disgracefully and to top it off... France couldn't win a game that way given to them at the beginning starting with a NON penalty kick and a goal being taken away from Italy AND they still lost. what more do you want? deal with it... be happy you got as far as you did and keep the respect of the Italians and all other fans. don't go down as sore losers.
Also, I don't believe the excuses I'm hearing. "Materazzi insulted Arabics" "Materazzi pinched his nipple" "Materazzi said something about his wife/mother" How about France lost??? If everyone walked around headbutting people REGARDLESS of whether or not something was said or done (which i doubt was truly the case in this match) that would be ridiculous. deal with the fact that one of the greatest soccer legends put a disgraceful end to what would have been a wonderful career. Italy won DISPITE a penalty kick and a refused goal BOTH of which were wrong calls... with zidane's red card, finally the official made a good call.

Figo's headbutt wasn't as violent as Zidane's.Also, Figo headbutted someone during a fight when the referee was losing control of the game. Zidane,as we know of right now, had no reason other than some unfair insult to headbutt materazzi.

Since when did Materazzi pinch him?? As far as I'm concerned he was only holding. And Figo should have been red carded as well, but the ref was probably feeling guilty for Potugal who were going to miss 2 players in the quarter finals. It's true people shouldn't be defending one and not the other, but most of them believe the rumours about Materazzi being racist.

Can you spell HEAD! Give it a rest, no defence necessary!!!
I've been reading your other questions, all pretty much the same, trying hard to defend your point of view and discredit others. Too bad, you're probably a nice person really. Probably never kicked a football in your life though.
I didn't say anything about not being entitled to an opinion. Be sure, however, to respect the thoughts and opinions of others.
Football isn't gender specific! I've been playing since I was 4.
Steady on, young 'un, I'm 59 in December.

figo should definitely been given a red. he was irritating the whole cup with his dives and complaining to the refs. zidane got a red. the italian was probably completely out of line but he is an italian, what do you expect? what it comes down to is that both figo and zidane were wrong. what happened to a hard, professional foul later in the game?

The bloody Italian must have told him something really NASTY. Would you do this finishing the last game of your career just like that? It must have been something really rude.
Maybe people defend Zizou because he has actually played so well. Figo used to be good, should have known when to leave.. Now he only knows how to fall and argue with the referee...

Both deserved a red card and at least 4 games suspension. Zidane did get a red card, Zigo didn't. Where is the bias ? Zigo should have been allowed to play in the WC anymore.

I thought Figo should have gotten something too! Zidane got what he deserved...Figo did not! There was a little bias there I thought. Portugal paid for it after that...the refs were not calling anything in their favour.
