I am finishing my basement and I was wondering how far apert the have to be to be in compliance with code.

Each State has variations of the national code. But from any point in the room a electrical outlets can not be over six feet away. And must be 15 inches off the floor. A good rule of thumb is to put at least 2 on each wall.

The other answer about 15 inches is incorrect. There is a maximum height (I don't feel like looking it up, it is at least 5 ft) but no minimum. The max distance between receptacles is every point on the wall needs to be within 6 ft of a receptacle (resulting in 12 ft max between receptacles). A receptacle needs to be within 6 ft of a door opening. A wall space (between doors or whatever) needs to have a receptacle if it is over 2 ft (other answers left this part off).
But I have to ask. If this most basic aspect of the code is what you are asking about, what makes you think you will be in compliance with the rest of the code? Perhaps you should hire an electrician.
My answer is based on the NEC. I don't know if PA has modified the NEC requirements.

There are many arrogant individuals on this site, but I will try to help you to the best of my abilities. The 6 foot rule is correct. That means that you should have an outlet every 12 linier ft of wall space in a room. Basements are now required to have ground fault circuit interupter receptacles. There is a pretty inexpensive way to handle this. Contact me, I will help.

Every 12 ft along the walls = 6 ft to either from center per NEC
