For the one who want to blame Clinton ... we have been at a state of War with North Korea since 1953 ... please check your history.
I am not saything anything onw way or the other, Japan has the righ to defend its interest. I asked yesterday if this could get us to WWIII, I got mixed answers. This popped up this morning. Looks like we may be going that way.

From so many people the arguements sound so much like the ones used to say World War I would not happen. It is so very interesting to read the post.

Tensions between North Korea and Japan have been terrible for a long-time, which started when Imperial Japan ruled over both Koreas before World War II. There are actually many similarities between US relations with Iran and Japan relations with North Korea. North Korea, like China over "Rape of Nanking", has demaded Japan to apologize for past military aggression, which it generally it has not apologized for. Which finally erupted in the abductions of Japanese citizens in the '70's and '80s. Tensions between the two have never been the same since, even though "normalization" talks have been in the works for the past 15 years.
The Japanese paranoia over North Korea's missile-strike capability is justified. What does "the leader" really want? I think it has more to do with blackmail than anything else, there is no doubt he wants more money or "aid" to fund his various interests and hobbies. The U.N. and other countries have supplied them with enormous amounts of aid the past twenty-years to help the starving people of N.Korea...but it literally goes down the drain because none of it filters past their leader/government.
What's interesting is that Japan is taking more offense than South Korea... who should be worried most?
I don't think any neighboring country would appreciate ICBM's heading in their direction........Japans reaction is politically charged and good reason for the international community to take seriously. This is Japan's own version of Americas' "Cuban Missile Crisis", and hopefully they can follow from JFK's example.

What would you do? Japan is a lot closer than the US and has not been on especially good terms with North Korea (granted there is smuggling and illegal sales of boats etc). However Japan should back down and let China handle the problem both from its better relationship and also its own intimate danger...the missiles could strike all of the major cities in China. If Japan persists and does make an attack, then the US will be drawn into the foray, and China out of its own self defense may be forced to back North Korea...It is time for both the US and Japan to let China handle the mess with diplomacy and subtle pressure.

Yes, I read it. You can't blame the Japanese. What the Clinton Administration did back in the 1990s is what got us into this. In fact, that cash we paid them helped the N. Koreans develop nuclear weapons. The North Koreans are trying to extort money from us again. I say, "Let them have it, Japan." I don't agree with the article that the strike by the Japanese would be preemptive, however. A better word would be retaliatory. Didn't the North Koreans start this mess?

Nobody is going to WWIII over a missile silo being destroyed. North Korea talks a lot of smack, but never does anything. Their citizens would sell out the entire military for a loaf of bread.
Kim Jung Il is just a grown up with a 2 year old mentality who didn't get enough hugs from his mommy. We need to quit paying attention to him.

I hope they do. That was really good of it to be reported though because now everybody knows about it. I guess they are taking the new York Times approach to espionage.
