It's the way they were raised. Lifelong indoctrinated beliefs have a powerful hold on everyone. Couple that with people who do not search for any knowledge outside of their indoctrinated beliefs, out of apathy, ignorance or disinterest and you get someone who just goes along blindly with whatever they have been taught by their own particular limited social influence.

If it's ingrained that that is how you should treat a woman, that's what you do. If you father treated your mother and sisters no better than his cows, and everyone you've ever met does the same. It's a safe bet you will too. It's sad, but true. Even if they live in a Western country, some people will continue in this way of thinking, like the Somali in Norway (?) who took his 11 year old daughter back to Somalia so she could undergo female circumcision and held her down while it was performed without any anesthesia...

I don't know what culture you're referring to, but in some cultures, whores are not tollerated and you don't see prostitution on the streets like you do here. Those cultures regard women as sacred and disallow any demeaning gestures from women towards their own sex. For example, women who dress skanky, are not tollerated by the public as a whole. Besides, it will just cause her harm from harrassment. Thus they try to protect their women from external abuse. Sometimes, you have to realize that things over there are different from what they are here. However, we also have alot more crime here, teen-prgnancy, and kids living on the streets. If you're referring to islam, the quran does NOT mandate that women wear veils and the galabia. It's a sign of decencey, on the part of the woman, who chooses to wear it.

Because to them it seems right. Of course, they wouldn't put it that way, would they? Most likely, they see the system of their culture as protective of their daughters -- which, in some ways, it probably is. The social penalties they and their daughters would pay seem worse to them that whatever treatment you're calling "second class".

If you really want to understand, I'd suggest you read up on the matter, and try to think from within their perspectives.

Baffles me too, and i was lucky enough to have a father that valued his daughters as much as his sons.

but back to your first question just another comment, it's the male sperm that determines the sex of the child, go figure huh!.

In those cultures they are second class citizens. It is like you go to one church - your best friend to another - you have no right and can't change that.

i completely agree with u. Its a mindset, some partriarchal societies believe that men are more important than women, that they are somehow better than women. Its sick and sad and unfortunately very prevalent.
