You are already giving him EVERYTHING he needs.

If you have other family members who will be coming to the party and spoiling him with gifts :) I'd skip buying him a toy...start an IRA for him, a college fund, or even a savings account. At one year old, he's going to be more interested in the box and wrapping paper than the actual toy itself.

Books are always great but if you want something to get him playing then cars or blocks. My boys always loved rolling the cars around making noises. They can play with them for years. Blocks are good because you can teach them how to stack them and knock them over. Also they are great to start them counting. There are all kind of fancy toys out there but the basics seem to be like by kids the best.

Any of the Leap Frog Brand toys are great, very educational. The leappad is great, they have versions for all ages. My daughter learned all of her states with the leap pad before entering kindergarten. I highly recommend this brand of toys.

I have a year old and for his b-day we got him a rocking chair, toybox and a little tikes firetruck. He also likes blocks and anything like a truck or car he can push. He also got a wagon he loves. One more thing--at walmart or toys r us--a little 4 wheeler that really runs (VERY slow). It is for 12-24 months!

My one year old's favorite toy was a magnetic alphabet that would sing a song and the letter's sound when the letter was placed on the device. Loved it & helped him learn his ABC's:

good sturdy books, a game for the computer ( iknow that sounds strange, but someone did for our son, and said he is never to young to start learning, and you know what he did. Blew my mind) a learning dvd a fun one of course. One of those blow up tents with all the balls in it?

Maybe some stuffed animals, or toy rattles, soft books, bath toys, or some cute new clothes :-)
