To me, the difference is....

Porn has the simple intention of physically 'arousing' the viewer.

That which is Erotic is some 'thing' (speech, activity or the written word) which might not be implicit or overt, but has the necessary qualities to awaken both the emotions and imaginaton in ways that are new to the viewer / reader; broadening the emotional spectrum.

Personally, I really don't like anything that is 'in yer face,' it's the difference between being Mugged and being Teesed or Seduced (while bearing in mind that 'It is just not possible to seduce the willing.').

Those are mine, what are yours?

Porn is a noun, and object (ie: a porn magazine). It's short for pornography.

Erotic is an adjective - a description of an object. A porn magazine is erotic. An erotic magazine. There is no such thing as an erotic. The word erotic has to be accompanied by the object that it's describing.

Your question should have been about the difference between erotic and pornographic. To my mind, something is erotic if it sexually arouses. Pornographic is something that sexually arouses in a blatant and vulgar way. Pornographic, note the -graphic part of the word, refers to something of a visual content. From that, I don't think describing a piece of text or audio recording as pornographic is right.

Goethe:

What are you on about? Which bit of my answer do you think is circular logic? Check definitions from Webster's Dictionary www.m-w.com/dictionary:

erot·ic
Pronunciation: i-'rä-tik
Variant(s): also erot·i·cal /-ti-k&l/
Function: adjective

porn
Pronunciation: 'porn
Variant(s): also por·no /'por-(")nO/
Function: noun

por·nog·ra·phy
Pronunciation: -fE
Function: noun

Note erotic (function: adjective), porn/pornography (function: noun). Ok, so my interpretation of whether something non-graphical can be considered pornography is exactly that, my interpretation. But as to the my use of English? Come on.. check your own.

To me the term "EROTIC" would indicate a degree of theatrics in a sexual way. Possibly more fanciful then PORN but still very sexual.. The term "PORN" on the other hand would indicate a lot more in the idea of a very basic sexual nature..More like "down and dirty"

Twokay75 needs a lot of remedial work in the basic use of English. He also needs to discipline himself, think about what he's going to say before putting his fingers on the keyboard, and resist circular logic.

Now, for your question, which you seem to have answered for yourself. Erotica appeals to one's aesthetic senses, art, form, structure, compositon, and so on.

Pornography appeals to one's prurient interests, voyeurism, sexual activity (rather than the depiction of it in a painting), and arousal.

It is so hard to draw a line between the two that when Supreme Court Justice Souter handed down his ruling, he said that he really couldn't give a definitive account of pornography, but "I know it when I see it."

The difference between erotic and porn is lighting. Subtle in the former and unsubtle in the latter.
