There is a condition called hypernatremia caused by drinking too much water (which no doubt hurts your bladder along with the rest of your body). It occurs when the water dilutes the concentration of your blood and plasma to a point where the normal osmosis between those fluids and your cells is reversed. You have to drink a lot of water to get to this point, but it seemed more prudent to mention it than merely telling you "no" as some respondents have done. That said, drinking water is indeed one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself.

Drinking lot for a long period of time is one of the most healthy things that you can do for your body. Your body is made up of majority of water. It needs the moisture to go thru it's daily and nightly activity. In some studies 95% of the illnesses in the world today can be cured... yes be cured by drinking at least one to two gallons a day of water. One gallon of straight water and one gallon you can absorb thru the foods you eat.
If your urine is bright yellow it is cause you are not getting enough water in your diet. If it is pale yellow is that you are drinking almost enough. If you check the website of Urine therapy you will find out how important drinking water and eating correctly can be to your health and your body.
Therefore to answer your questions... It will not hurt your bladder and it will help cleanse your body.

Water, is the best thing for you. The only time it really can do damage is if you are doing a marathon or similar if you were to drink an excessive amount it could kill you.

Why a lot ? You should drink that much water which will yield pale yellow coloured urine. More can help you if you are a patient of acidity otherwise you will loose your hunger and cause other problems.
