They will quit laying eggs when they try and sit on some.
If the hen is always sitting on the nest even if there are no eggs. She will quit laying. Sometimes the heat or cold will make them stop. And as they age they will lay less eggs.
Mine have slowed down since it has gotten so hot this summer.
I still get some just not as many as I was.
About half the normal number.

Could be their diet. If they are penned up they maybe need something in their food. Oyster shells help to make a hard shell. Sometimes their shells are too soft so they break right after they lay them but oyster shells will help to harden them.
If they are out they could have a nest hiding so they can set on them to hatch.

Possibly fright---Fox? Owl? A good scare can cause your chickens to temporarily stop laying. Listen for them to go bonkers, and check to see what the problem is. Snake??? Good luck--The Desert Rat

Sometimes chickens stop laying eggs as they get older. all of my first chickens did that. My friends told me to send them to the butcher, but I just couldn't do it.

They are on strike.
Low pay, poor food, bad living conditions.
I suggest giving them a raise, better meals, and spruce up their pen a bit. Maybe that will improve their attitude. I suggest making improvements quickly before they unionize.

They just do that from time to time. Don't worry about it unless they become sick and frail which means they could be egg-bound. Then you have a problem. Until then - relax.
