My nails tend to peel a lot, so I keep them long when possible, but when they do start to peel, I have to cut them. Usually, though, they don't last long before that happens. Also, I'm not much of a nail painter either. The most I ever get done is my left hand (I'm right handed), and that's with clear nail polish.

I think short, round with a coat of clear polish is appropriate for a man or a woman, especially if you have a job which requires the use of your hands.
