Blue Ray disks or just BD's are the next generation of storage devices.

BD's are very similar to CD's physically.

Difference comes with the type of laser that is used. Generally CD drives use red laser. whereas here blue laser is used.

Blue laser is more thinner and sharper than red laser. This makes possible of inscribing (writing) on the disc on a very thin line and hence more data can be pushed into the same size of disk.

Typically BD's are designed to hold more than 30GB in a single disk (ahh isn't one disk a mini hard disk :-) )

Sony & Hitachi is already having BD players but is currently not economic. Might be u can browse there sights for more details on there products.

The basic idea of Blue laser can be better understood by the physics of VIBGYOR.

you shouldnt, imo. At least not yet. The price is ridiculous and will drop as time goes on. The blueray player is $999, and the blueray burner for you computer is $999. The only advantage at this point is that it can hold 25gb per layer, which makes it good for backups or burning your HD videos to.
