Nope, I don't give superstitions any validity. Its a waste of time and worry that i don't need.

Your assertion is not correct as not all hotels are like that.. I was standing in line for a hotel wondering if they had a 13th floor in Canada and my room ended up being on the 13th floor. Of course it doesn't scare me, there is nothing scary about numbers. I suppose some hotel people are afraid that some mixed up people could be offended by a 13th floor or that someone may choose to jump from a 13th floor.

Simple commercial pressure... many people are afraid of the number 13, so they would be reluctant to stay on a "Floor 13"... this would cost the hotels money, so they just miss out that floor when they hang the signs - going straight from 12 to 14.
There is, of course, still a 13th floor, they just don't label it that way.
As for walking under ladders, which somebody mentioned... there's a perfectly good reason for not doing that... the man at the top, with a bucket of paint, and a shaky hand...

ive been to 2 hotels with 13th floor. And they had the nicest rooms, because people are so supersticious no one wants to stay in them. 13 is my lucky number so i was happy with it. 13 is the greatest number of all time!
Real reason they dont have it, according to GM of marriot is, "there is a less chance to sell a room on a 13th floor" his reason for this is that people get the mind set 13 is unlucky, so instead of fighting the croud they roll with the punches and just skip it, 12, 14, 15, 16.. you get the picture. Weird, but true

Hotels don't have thirteenth floors because supertitious people wouldn't build them in some hotels. It caught on and no hotel has a thirteenth floor, even in hotels taller than that it goes from 12 to 14 (which is stupid because the 14th is really the 13th with a different name.) I don't know if they do the same thing in non-hotel scyscrapers, you'd think they would but I don't know.

The number 13 is considered unlucky in many societies, so for superstition's sake, the number 13 is "skipped" as the floors are being labeled. The 13th floor is still there, it is just called the 14th floor.
No, it doesn't scare me at all.

Just because they decide to name it the 14th floor instead of the 13, it's STILL the 13th floor up. Anybody that falls for that and takes a room in the (supposedly) 14th floor is doomed! That is, if superstition was real.

Society has put a shun on the number 13 for some reason and I am sure it has a history to it. I would like to find that out one day. I say put me on the 13th floor in room 1313. Number don't mean anything.

This is a predominatly American thing. In our society, 13 is supposedly unlucky. In other societies, 13 is considered lucky. There are some countries that put their casinos on the 13th floor...and some who have very big casinos have 2 13th floors.

13 is actually a LUCKY number. It symolizes the freeing of mankind. Mankind is stuck in twelve (hours on a clock, months of the year, zodiac signs, knights of the roundtable, apostles).
It's actually 13 that breaks us free. The mayan calendar is perfect with its13 moons; the 13th person at the Roundtable was King Arthur; the 13th person with the apostles was Jesus Christ.

because they automatically associate bad luck with Friday the 13...so i guess they think having a 13th floor in a hotel brings bad luck.
