Last night's World Cup final match proves that video review referees should be introduced in major football tournaments. It should resolve most controversial refereeing decisions and I think sort out diving once and for all. Anyone agree?

The ref doesn't need to refer to the video replay everytime. Only when his calls are being disputed.

Last night only? What about the games before that?!

This world cup was extremely frustrating to say the least! I have watched referees let play continue over calls that were EXTREMELY obvious, and I've seen others make calls that were literally IMPOSSIBLE to see from where they were standing, with 15 players surrounding the incident!

However, what makes soccer so exciting in the end, my friend, are those referee errors. Yes, it would be much more fair to many teams to introduce a replay system, but in the end it is human error that keeps soccer so exciting. You're always holding your breath after your team scores a goal, because you always feel that the referee is about to cancel the goal for an off-side or a foul or something that you didn't see on screen.

That being said, i DID thing of a replay system, and further alterations to the world of soccer:

Add 2 more side referees, that way you have two sides of the field covered at all times instead of one side on half the field and the opposite side on the other half of the field. And the replay system i thought of is simple, since now u have 2 sideline referees on each half of the field and one referee on the field, whenever there is a controversial call, three referees discuss it. If they all agree, then the referees call holds. If only 2 agree and one doesn't, then they look at the replay ONLY in that case.

However, another problem with having replays is that it's not very practical since it would slow the game down WAY too much, and that would ruin the advantage a team sometimes has of having half the team still running back to defend, and a nice counter-attack chance would be ruined just because the referee wanted to look at a replay.

Crazy decisions make the game what it is; I agree that in terms of fairness video refereeing should be introduced, that way there can be no argument. But I enjoy having a free flowing game of football, one that doesn't rely on the continual checking of video replays. I don;t see how last nights game proves the need for video refereeing above any other game of football, bad decisions are made in every match, it is impossible for the ref and lines men to be Omnipotent. Even with video technology, mistakes will always be made, I think that it will slow the game down, and take authority away from the ref, leading to more descent amongst players demanding to see the replay. The great thing about football is that it moves and flows, refereeing has never been a flawless science, but it's part of what makes the game so colourful.

During the game it would be useful for disputed goals other than that I think everyone has to rely on the referee on the pitch.

That said I think there is an excellent case for video to be made from a number of vantage points to be reviewed after the game by a panel of independent referees. They would be tasked to examine all the diving, wrestling and off the ball incidents and report them for investigation and penalty.

You won't get violence out of the fans until it is removed from the pitch.

Don't think it will be a complete solution. The American National Football League (not the round ball) has had it for several years now and it sometimes has a detrimental effect on the game. It can drag out play in games making some contests last 4 or more hours.

Be careful what you wish for...

YES!!! But it will be hard to do because the ref then always need to go to the screen or wateva and it will take ages. I mean, in some situations you want to hurry up and take a free shot or wateva, b4 the other defense has time to build up. so it will have to introduce a completely new chapter of technology. Mini-screens for the ref to have with him on the field arent so great, they cud break, etc.
It is something that everyone is hoping for, but it will be hard. and expensive.

That is a fanatastic idea!

For such a world class game something is needed to stop the cheats. One goal is so crucial in soccer and when it is awarded unfairly then something needs to be done to stop it.

Lets start a petition!!!!
