The indians are like that. They are different. In hinduism, a girl or boy is supposed to stay celibate for a quarter of their life. The reason is that the body is developing and the mind is developing.

When the child is growing, most important is that
education is completed and in this period of time like between age of 21-25, the girl or boy is to remain celibate. That is a very important and compulsory requirement.

Then the girl is most times expected to be virgin when getting
married because that is how their culture is. A girl who has
been exploring and been around is not accepted in hindu culture.

Just because western culture is different, does not makeit
right.

There is, therefore, no emotional trauma in the mariage
or baggage from other relationships like date rape and sexual
abuse and drinking and drugs etc. Girls are supposed to be
brought up in a "good" environment because marriage is very
important and divorce is not rampant in indian society.

You must understand this. Just because western culture
is promisquous and liberal does not mean everyone else
has to be. Western society especially America and Canada
are countries created on stealing of land and elimination
of a whole race. That does not mean Hindu society should
also become like that.

We all have our own cultures and traditions to maintain. I think
hindu society is a great way of keeping your soul intact as
the sexual baggage is not there after marriage.

Western society may think it is ok to impose their views on
others and ask others to change because it does not work for
them. That does not make it right.

I hope the indian hindus will maintain their culture and lifestyle
and not become westernised.

Traditionally because girls are precious and what they perceive as a 'lack of freedom' is really 'protecting them from harm.'

All girls are princesses, but in this day and age too many men simply want to 'take advantage' of them.

I am not too familiar with the Indian culture (eastern or western), but I am sure the reasons are similar in these cultures.

Unfortunately it's a cultural issue. Having grown up in Nanital I have seen it firsthand with respect to how my cousin sisters were treated. Some of it is based in safety for the girls but mostly it's because of the general idea that women are fragile and will 'break' a lot easier than men. Flawed thinking at it's best, thankfully it is changing.

hey i am an indian girl..my parents are very modern and don't restrict me..in fact my mom is my best friend. It is the indian culture to protect and guide their children especially girls but that is slowly changing and most girls and boys enjoy equal privileges these days.

Because men are idiots and think themselves as a higher being. It's completely stupid, women are as equal as men, no matter what they say. The only problem is most women are very vulnerable and can't stand up for themselves, so the men take over. I think the whole system stinks, I hope the world will blow itself up so we don't have to deal with this anymore.

It's the culture and religion. I heard that Hinduism requires the widows to throw themselves upon their dead husbands when they are cremeated, so they go to heaven with their husbands. A German guy told me that Hinduism claims that kids under age 7 have no souls and are not humans thereof. Girls under 7 are thrown into rivers to drown, so their parents can have boys. Sad, isn't it?
