I have. I got the minimun redundancy pay (1 weeks pay, no tax for each FULL year you've worked) I had to leave the premises the same day too.
Best thing that ever happenned to me.

No but I've seen them happen at my company.

They usually announce that there will be redundancies and give an idea of numbers to go (this is sometimes a maximum so less people might end up going). They would then normally say they'll be a period of time when they'll decide who will go (and consult with unions etc.) and during this time people can volunteer for redundancy if they want.

Then on a certain day the unlucky people are told they are being made redundant - they have a notice period (4 weeks at my place) although some people leave the site immediately (I think they'd still get 4 weeks pay).

And that's it really. Not a very nice experience, even if you're one of the "lucky" ones who stays.

hi, I was made redundant a few years back as a knock on effect from 9/11. The company sat me and several others down in a meeting room and told us we were on the redundancy list. As normal (happened every quarter from 2002) an email was sent out to everyone in the company offering redundancy to anyone who wants to take it. They had until the following Monday (meeting was on Friday). A few people did offer to take redundancy but I wanted to leave and stated this. On the monday I was given 1 months notice and within that period my redundancy money was sorted out. Does this help? Feel free to ask anything further. Dan

Thankfully, redundancy has not affected our immediate family. My friend's husband, however, has been made redundant 3 times over the past 10 years. He was in his 50s the last time and knew he had no chance of getting another job so they sunk their money into starting a small taxi business. My friend drives the taxi during the day and her husband does nights. They work really hard but it's a competitive business and they are now in their 60s and still cannot afford to retire.

Yes. The way they announced it was less than tactful (via a Powerpoint presentation in an open meeting!), but after that they were very good with dealing with the psychological impact and helping to come to terms with it. They offered retraining as part of the redundancy package which was useful.

I was on sick leave when my boss phoned me and asked me if I could speak to him, I told him to tell me over the phone, and he told me he was making me redundant. I just went back to pick up my stuff and that was it. I didnt get any redundancy money or anything.
He did give me a really good reference though, and also said I had 0 sick days in my employment, even though I had loads!

well lets hope you are never in a serious accident that leaves you bed ridden and unable to exercise and if you got hugely fat, you would still expect medical treatment. you have a disgusting attitude, the woman might not of been able to keep her weight down for a medical reason. who the hell are you to judge this woman? i think you need to learn the meaning of compassion, it is not up to you who doctors treat.
