When contractions of your uterus occur, the fetus gets squeezed. Sometimes the squeeze happens on the baby's head, or on the unbilical cord. In either of these sensitive places, there could be a temporary decrease in teh supply of the blood to the fetus. This stress often causes the heart rate to dip down.
By itself, its not necessarily an ominous sign. In fact, these dips occur regularly to nearly all babies during labor. But, if the dip is long (lasts over a minute or two), severe (drops down to 80 or less) or happens in certain other recognizable patterns, it might mean your baby is stressed and had better come out soon. If those patterns develop, you doctor will tell you something like"We think your baby needs to come out soon" or, if the patern is ominous "We thing your babies need to come out NOW". Unless the patterns look like that, though, you dont need to worry.
Fortunately, your in hospital and nurses and doctors are watching for the very signs they need to. Relax, breathe deep, do your job to get those babies born and let the doctors do theirs.

I means that your baby was in disstess when you had a contraction. In other words you baby could not handle the contractions. But it sounds like you are home now so the doctors seem okay with it and are not worried. With my last baby (born 5 1/2 months ago) the same thing happened to me and it was really scary. When you are in labor the only thing that doctors can do in either am emergency c-section or get the baby out with a vacuum or forceps when you have already started pushing. Just don't panick it will only make things worse. Good luck and stay healthy.

yeh it sounds like that where just dipping low due to the contractions which is normal, they also don't move around during the contractions. if you are worried speak to ur ob and make sure that they check it out until ur feeling right things happen so fast. I had an appoitment at 37 weeks and my daughter had a perfect heartbeat and was doing perfectly 2 days later i was being induced and getting ready to give birth to my daughter who had passed away. You can never be to careful when your pregnant, specially when ur carry twins!!

this means they are reacting to the pressure of the contraction. if they were able to say that you weren't in true labor and sent you home, i would not worry and just follow your doctor's instructions that you were given when you were discharged. as long as the heartrate stays within a normal range, there can be a little variation in what the actual number is. i'm 37 weeks pregnant with our 5th and have been in the hospital 2x in the past 2 weeks. both times, our daughter's heartrate has been all over the place, ranging from 140 to 175, but my ob/gyn was happy with the ways it was increasing and decreasing, so she went ahead and let us go home. good luck with twins!

To a certain extent, this is very normal. The worry is if the heart rates DROP. If you can see the numbers when you are hooked up, ask the Dr or Nurse what numbers are ok.. and what numbers are too low. But if they were describing the heart rate as "dipping" it's most likely nothing to worry about...

it is fairly normal. during contractions, the babies get tressed, and the contractions do actually squeeze them, (in order to move them down the birth canal) They will slow down their heart beat a small bit DURING contractions. If it happened after the contractions I would be more concerned. But if you were already sent home, you should be great. GOOD LUCK!

In all honesty you should have asked the doctor and the nurse while you were at the hospital. That would have been better than coming on here asking people who are not medical professionals.

If you are home now, it sounds like they did not have a huge concern......if you are still worried then please call your OB today and ask.
