There are different standards for fertile. Most experts consider normal to be a minimum of 20 million or 50 million (see sources section below). In this case, you are either well within the normal range or very close to it. If you have been trying for 2 years, your sperm count is probably *not* the reason for not conceiving. In fact, men with a *very* low sperm count of 2 million have been known to father children with no intervention.

Some things you *may* help:

First of all, get the test redone with at least a week between tests (for a total of 3 tests). Sometimes the lab makes an error. And sometimes you just have a bad day for sperm.

Give up bad habits like drinking, smoking, drugs.

Don't overheat. Sperm need a temperature slightly below body temperature; that's why the testicles are outside the body cavity. If you wear tight pants or underwear, change to a looser style. If you take really hot showers or baths, make them warm instead. And avoid hot environements like saunas.

At the same time, consider your wife's fertility. Please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. There is almost certainly something else going on that is causing you to not be able to conceive...

Wear briefs, or go commando, to help keep the temperature down in that area. If you smoke, quit. If you drink, cut back. A healthy diet helps, too. Also, having too much sex will lower the count, as the sperm has no chance to build up. (I know you probably didn't want to hear that part, though.) A woman usually ovulates around 14 days after her period starts, so if you refrain from having sex a few days before that mark, you will increase your chances. Good luck!

You should listen to your doctor. If you want, advice of another doctor then you should. But I you should also eat healthy to increase your sperm count and straighten your sperms. Breakfast is the most important. Eat fruits and lots of greens everyday. Like make a fruit smoothie with a few veggies. I watched a documentary on discovery channel and learned it from there.

I am sure the Doctor has already told you this but temperature is important so you may not want to wear jockeys OR any type of briefs. Boxers would be the best.

Also do not over do it like three or four days before her ovulation.

Then when she has figured out the best time to conceive you go to work...

Her OB-GYN kenobi can help you find the best days for her cycle.

Sorry about the bit of humor. It's habit.

49.3 isn't too low to father a child but a little boost wouldn't hurt. Go to a vit. store like GNC or order off the web--L. Carnatine, Fertility Blend for Men, and a good mulit-vit. It will take 3 months to see any results. My hubby took this combo and went from 16 mil to 63 mil in 6 months. Also, if you smoke--stop. Good luck!
