our internet explorer is infected and i dont know how to get rid of it. we also use firefox and its not infected..

Viruses infect your computer not just your Explorer.
I'd suggest that you download and instal Avast Anti-Virus which has a Mail and Messenger scanner and rpotection option.

firefox is not an anti virus protector,its a realy good firewall to help prevent getting a virus.--the best free antivirus program that you can get is -avast. The best is to reinstall yr IE.Another option is to run yahoo antispy from yr Firefox browser ( u can easily download the yahoo antispy...it is incorporated in the yahoo toolbar), sometimes it is not that virus that crashes yr IE browser.
Try to run yr antivirus (make sure yr software is up to date)
Other than that, download spybot or spyware doctor to scan through ur OS thoroughly.
