Zinédine Yazid Zidane (born June 23, 1972, in Marseille, France), nicknamed Zizou, is a French football player for Real Madrid and formerly France. He is a Muslim of Algerian Kabyle Berber ethnic origin. Through his status as a prominent Frenchman of Maghrebi descent, he promotes racial and religious tolerance, especially among the youth.

Very shameful if Materazzi did use a racial slur to provoke Zidane, especially since FIFA has made stamping out racism the slogan of this World Cup. Then again being a professional athelete, Zidane should know how to handle insults from fans and players of opposing teams meant to throw him off. The best revenge for Zidane if Materazzi did insult his religion or parents is to play harder and win the cup, and then taunt Materazzi and Lippi.

Yes Zizou or Zidane is a Muslim (though non-practising as he describes himself). He was born into an Algerian immigrant family.

His parents are Algerian Muslims, and he was brought up as a Muslim but he does not follow Islam closely, or any other religion.

Yes he is a muslim../.....it is a true fact....why are you that surprised?!
his father(a muslim) originally came from algeria to france as a refugee in the 1950's for a better life.but i don't know if zidane is a muslim just by name or he is acting as one.....if you know what i mean.....he is not proud of hgis arabain origins and i dont know if he feels the same with being a muslim......honestly i dont think so...!

He attacked Materazzi cuz Materazzi and coach Lipi know what hurts Zidane, they were all in Jeuventus.
Materazzi insulted Zidane's religion and his mom.. Zidane got hurt and instantly changed colours... Zidane raped him

My country(Pakistan) is not very proud in football but from any way i still know that "Zidan" is a muslim and his name is "Zan-ul-Abideen". But why you asked it.
