I watched "In the Army Now" and they reffered to the scene in Pirates of the Caribbean, where the guys locked up were trying to get that dog with the keys. I was just wondering where they got that from because "In the Army Now" is way older than Pirates of the Caribbean.

While I was watching "In the Army Now" one of the caracters said "this is reminds me of that scene in Pirates of the Caribbean where they are trying to get the keys off that dog" and my question is where did they get that from if Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl wouldn't come out for another 6 or 7 years?

The movie is based on the ride "Pirates of the Caribbean" found both in Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida (a favorite destination of my family.) The scene you are referring to is one of the scenes in the ride. Three pirates are trying to coax a dog over to their cell, and the dog just happens to be holding the keys. Many of the scenes in the movie are live action references to the animatroinic scenes on the ride. The town of Tortuga, where Jack Sparrow spends much of his time is another example. The buildings and costumes are almost identical to what you see when riding the ride.

From my understanding, that's an old concept for people in jails of that fashion. I just figured that the POC writers were trying to have some comic relief that could possibly have some historical merit.

It wasn't trying to steal. The writer was trying to think of a way for Jack to escape and that was his favorite was that the dog had the keys.
