What do Americans think the second greatest country is?

Question

This question is only open to Americans who think that United States is without a doubt the greatest country in the world. I wanna know, if you are so sure that The U.S. is the greatest country without a doubt, then what is the second and give me as many reasons as you can.
Also, answer this question without referring to America in any way, it really isn’t necessary, i just want to understand what the qualities are you are looking for.
Remember, if you mention the United States then you have no chance of getting best answer.

I'd love to say "nothing else comes close" and leave it at that, but that wouldn't very sporting of me.

I approach this question thinking "okay if I couldn't be a US citizen, what country would I want to call my own?"

This brings into question the nation's average wealth, political freedom, job opportunities, overall quality of life, etc.

Of course these things alone don't make a country great or we'd all move to Norway. I also want a country I can be proud of; a country that I feel has made a positive contribution to humankind and will do so in the future so I can be a part of their great national tradition. Of course no nation is perfect and every nation has probably commited some kind of international atrocity, so when I pick a country, don't point out that they did so-and-so. I study history at an Ivy League university, so I assure you, I am aware of what happened in the past.

So if we factor all this in, I would say country #2 would be (in this order, I suppose)

-Great Britain
-Australia
-Japan

Well I'm a military man, so I'm always proud to say I'm American. No other Military can match up to the United States' Military. And what I'm always proud of which all nations now. The United States is a sleeping beast, once awaken there is no stopping it and God pray for the once in its way. I'm not talking about the Iraq war; I means Japan, even Afghan for example. I'm going to avoid the political part sorry I'm not too happy with that which you have to admit is understandable. But the smaller things I would say we have the best entertainment, more opportunities as careers and education. And what I'm extremely proud of there is no better women in the world than a true American born woman.

If I had to choose the second best country say military wise. I would say China; they would give a good fight. Hell there so many of those little bastards. Even though there a little behind on there technology they would still pose a threat to anyone. Even if we went to combat with I think we would come out with some deep bruises and scratches.

As far as entertainment well depending on the person you are. I always enjoyed France. If you REALLY know where to look, there is some wild stuff you can do there. They have pretty good food and the wine is excellent. So I would say France comes second as far as society. Oh cool think which explain why they never get stuff done. They work until lunch, how cool is that. But now that I think about it, Japan is pretty cool also Italy. It’s hard to say on the entertainment part. But military definitely China.

I think that most Americans would say that the UK is the second best country in the world because they feel some type of connection to it as a culturally elevated entity much like a child looks up to its parents. Don't get me wrong I love my country as No.1 but if I HAD to go somewhere else I would go to the British Isles were my ancestors came from. I think that this is the reason that Americans have felt the need to come to Britain's aid in the past kind of like when the younger generation cares for their aging parents we are afraid of losing a part of ourselves by losing contact with them. I hope that this makes sense to you

America probably, and the 3rd best also America and the 4th,5th and 6th right up to the 10th still America after that most of them run out of fingers to count with and get confused. Unless of course they are good ol' boys from 'deliverance' country where some have extra fingers.
