i have removed the leaves and some of the stems, but it clings to the brick and paintwork and i can not get it off. I dont want to start using a scraper, because of damaging the wood . I am at a loss as to what to do.

Chop it off at the roots, give it a few days, then haul the whole lot down.

Rent a pressure washer a week after you have ripped it up by the roots. It won't damage the brick, but you may have to repaint the window sills.

spray it with poison and then when it dies pull it down. Then use a steel brush to get the rest off the bricks. Then clean the bricks with a solution of muratic acid.
