saffron- truffels may be the most expensive if you compare their price for the average bought size, but in fact if you bought the same weight of saffron as you did truffels the saffron would be far more expensive.... per kilo, saffron is more expensive than gold!!!

The spice saffron has built a reputation for being more expensive than gold -- fetching up to $2,700 per pound in recent years.
And then there's caviar. A recent U.N. ban on the international trade of Beluga caviar from the Black Sea and Caspian Sea is expected to cause a sea change on the prices for existing stock. What say you to $2,400 for a one-pound tin of black fish eggs? Be sure to wash it down with a $750 bottle of Krug Clos du Mesnil.
Truffles in general are among the most expensive foods in the world. Winter black truffles sell for $300-$500 U.S. dollars per pound

Booster Juice. You might think that stuff is cheap, at first, but if you're a trend follower or a ****** for cheap tastes and cheesy advertising then you'll end up paying way more for those drinks than any 1,000 dollar sundae or 5,000 dollar meal over the long term. How common is it that someone buys a $1000+ food item (ultra rarely) and now ask yourself how common does someone (almost everyone) buy a $5 food item (commonly and constantly).

I have always heard that Saffron is the most expensive on a consistent basis ($2,700 a pound). Though specific food items will exceed that such as certain white truffles (one that weighed 2.2 pounds sold last year for $111,000).
