You have to buy it. It is available in liquid concentrate for very young or sick babies, powdered for older healthy babies, or premixed (more expensive). The powder--the cheapest form--is not for newborns, as it can have bacteria contamination. It has actually killed babies in the US and in Europe.

Formula is very expensive, especially when you consider that it is a highly inferior replacement for something that is free!!

You buy it in three different forms. There is premade and all you need to do is put it into a bottle. There is concentrated. It comes in cans and you add water to it according to the directions. Then there is powder. You add water according to direction with this kind also. The powdered is great for traveling. The cost varies between brands and also country that you live in. You don't have to buy the name brands. In the US formula is regulated by the FDA so all of it has to meet standards to be sold. I always used the Wal-mart's Parents Choice brand because it was a lot cheaper and it was just as good and the others.

Infant formula comes in 3 different types. It can be purchased already prepared, in a liquid concentrate and you must add the appropriate amount of water before feeding, or in a powdered mix (yes, similar to how kool-aid comes) and you must mix it with water according to the directions on the can. Usually one scoop of powder to 2 ounces of water. Formula is expensive. However, you can qualify for various government sponsored programs that assist parents of newborns by offering reduced or free formula. Qualification is generally based on your income. You can also watch for coupons for money off formula. Ask your friends and family to help you save coupons. If the baby's mother is able to breastfeed, that is best for baby, plus there is no cost. Breastfeeding is best if the mother is able to, but formula fed babies are also happy and healthy.

you have been asking ALOT of parenting questions, did someone leave a couple of kids on your door step and forget to explain how to take care of them??

Yes formula is expensive. there are different kinds of formula - some that is ready to use, some that is a liquid that has to be mixed with water, and some that is a powder that has to be mixed with water. Which ever you buy, READ the directions. That will tell you how to make it.

No, you cannot make your own. There's so much that's in it that you'll never be able to attain. You can purchase it in 1 of 3 forms: Powder, which you mix 1 scoop of powder and 2 oz of water. Liquid concentrate, which you mix 50/50 w/water, or liquid that's ready to feed and you just pour and feed. Yes, it's gawd aweful expensive. But they know that they can get away w/charging that much b/c it's a necessity and people need to have it. Just like diapers, no matter how expensive they get, people will still buy them because they need them.

Baby formula? Well the best is mothers milk and only the mom can make that. But there are ready made and powder form. The powder form you have to add sterile water depending on the age of the baby. But the ready made is definately the easiest.

your cheapest way is breastfeeding, then powdered formula where u add water, then concentrate which is liquid you add water but is more expensive than powder. There is also ready made which costs more. Also depending on the brand you choose. All directions come on the box or container

You go to the store and you buy it in powder form. In Ireland it's costs less than 10 euro and you'll get lots of feeds from one box. Ask a store clerk which one you should buy, because there are different ones depending on the babies age.The instructions on how to make it are on the box. It's usually in powder form and you basically put a few scoops into sterilized or boiled water and let it cool down. Don't forget you need bottles too!

You can get it in powder, liquid concentrated, or ready to serve liquid. You must add water to the powder and the concentrated liquid one it is very easy....and it is very expensive my baby takes about 2 and 1/2 cans a week at $13.00 each (we get powder)...so that's a big expense at the end of the month but we make it work.

Yes, it is in canisters (just add water!) and it is expensive which is why I never bought any and breastfed instead.
And, yes you can make it yourself with a healthy diet and it comes out nice and handy when you breastfeed.

Seriously, if you are concerned about what is in the formula or the expense of it then consider breastfeeding - it is healthy and free.
