An orgasm is what happens to the body at the height of sexual tension. Basically what happens is that in the time leading up to orgasm, the appropriate organs become swollen up with blood (in girls, the uterus and clitoris, in guys, the penis) in response to sexual stimulation (be it through intercourse or m*sturbation); an orgasm happens when the blood is released back into the circulation via muscle contraction. (It is these contractions--of the sexual organs and the abdominal muscles--that are experienced as orgasm.) The other component of orgasm involves the release of semen (in guys, of course) aka ejaculation. There isn't technically an equivalent process in women, though I've read of cases where some swear there is some kind of fluid released. (Don't know, never had that particular experience.)

Of course, that's just the physical aspect. If the mind isn't there, it doesn't happen...there have been entire careers devoted to this connection.

The crisis or climax of sexual excitement. In men, emission of the seminal fluid normally accompanies orgasm (ejaculation); in women no discharge takes place.
During each coition men have, as a rule, only one orgasm. Since many men are unable to continue coitus after ejaculation, the woman who is slower to reach the climax may remain unsatisfied unless she has been prepared by foreplay.

It would be easier, and probably less embarrassing for you, if I were to answer this privately (you can email me at mesipf@yahoo.com). I know everyone will think I'm a pervie for suggesting it, but please feel free to review my Q&A on the subject of sexual phenomenon if you need to in order to confirm you will get a serious explanation from me of what it is (in as technical or plain terms as you need it explained).

Oh, and jmhslh hasn't told you what an orgasm is. He's told you what a self-centered insensitive prick is.
