That's is such a twisted way of looking at it. How old are you anyway? 14?
A mature teen or an adult can have a mature and healthy relationship without sex. It is done more than you think. It just depends on what you value most. If you value sex the most then you will miss it. I think more people should spend more time working on the meaningful elements of a relationship before having sex. More and more often people just want to get straight to the more immediate pleasure of sex and much is lost. Many just have sex for the sake of having sex.
For me, sex was the end result of the closeness that you describe and it was worth it.
