BMI is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of the height, and is almost always expressed in the unit kg / m2, which is therefore often left out. Hence, using the units in parentheses the BMI value can be calculated as
BMI = Weight (kg) divided by Height (m) x Height (m).

There are any number of free BMI sites on the Internet, plug in your height and weight, some will ask for gender. Fitness is much more then a mathematical relationship between height and weight!!!

The Body Mass Index is calculated by using this formula:

weight (in kg) divided by height (in m) squared.

18.5-24.9 = acceptable
25-29.9 = overweight
30 and above = obese.

The BMI does have its limitations. It does not account for muscle weight. Developed muscle in general weighs more than fats and so a muscular person will, according to the BMI calculation, be overweight.
