I think YES, do you know why??? Read this
Russian news: David Trezeguet was standing near by while it happened and shared what he heard with journalists:
Zidane to Materazzi - you played with you hand, boy, used your hands
M - you're mistaken (it only seemed that way to you)
Z - that's the only way you can stop me. Just wait, we'll bit you in penalty and then you can find something better to do with your hands.
M - keep dreaming! In an hour your mother will (rude words) me, the champion!
Then Zidane hit him.
I would kill Materazzi for that!!!

You know the old 'sticks and stone" rhyme?
He acted completely inappropriately and got what he deserved. He is a hothead as shown below:
His temper has always been another matter.
Playing for Juventus five years ago, Zidane butted Jochen Kientz of Hamburger SV in a Champions League match, also earning himself a red card.
Eight years ago, Zidane was red-carded for stomping on an opponent while playing Saudi Arabia. At this World Cup he collected two yellow cards and was suspended for France's third group match against Togo.

Well friends - do not forget that inspite of holding an high responsible position , afterall ZIDANE is a human being not a saint- we can clearly see a laughing cool face of zidane suddenly turning red and headbutting Materazzi- involuntarily , pls remember involuntary actions can never be controled - so here our Cool Hero was insulted to an extreme extent that even blinded his mind that he is the captain of the French team playing the World Cup final match. So we should really punish /acuse Materazzi for provoking and driving him to do so. The lip readers have clealy revealed that Materazzi has said words like UGLY - TERRORIST- PROSTITUTE - F___ YOURSELF - which are highly insulting and breaks the moral values for which any sport is played. This is an preplanned ,foxy action by the Italian just to make an advantage to win the World cup.So friends if u think that u can stand these words if someone utters to u - then u can say no excuse to Zidane

What Materazzi did was called "getting inside his head". It seemed to work pretty well. Zidane didn't do the right thing, and that's why get got a red card for it.

he could have replied to him by the same to avoid getting the red card.when we come to morals zidane partially did the right thing by headbutting materazzi because he insulted his mother if some one insulted my mother i wouid beat the **** out of him but i would have never done that in the stadium(actually i would have...i'm not that kind and forgiving!!!!) so that i won't have the red card.......if zidane was more patient and smart at that moment he would have replied to him by making france hold the world cup for the second time(which i hoped for)and this way he would have act as a legend.i like the french team much more than the italian.
neverthless zidane still remains a legend in french football from my point of view and his name will shine bright next to names like platini, girosse and camtona...
Peace and Regards

No, he should have waited till the match was over. Materazzi was trying to get him to do something like that and Zidane should have known better.

Materazzi shouldn't have said that. In sports, there is always trash talking though; it's meant to dishearten the other players so they don't play as well. Zidane should have expected that. It worked in this case and Zidane got mad and head-butted him. I think it cost France the game because Zidane is one of their best kickers.

Yes, but at the wrong time, and it possibly cost France the WC. If he were to use his big brain instead of his little one, he would have waited until the end of the game and done that. Now people will forever remember how ZIdane went into retirement... on an idiotic move. Such a brilliant player should be smarter then that. SHAME!

Haha... Italy will be stripped of the title when the facts come out!!!! He said something like
"go back to Africa, you don't belong to Europe". Very few people know that Zidane has African
background but he has! He responded spontenously without thinking of the consequences because he
is NOT used to receiving racial slurrs.... he really looks white!
The Italian goalkeeper actually said something to that effect to Thierry Henry PRIOR to this
incident (holding Henry around the shoulder to make sure he hears), but Henry just replied "****
YOU!" without taking any physical action. Henry is noticably black so he is used to this as a
professional player, and he responded appropriately.
Notice that when the Zidane case happened it was the Italian goalkeeper who allerted the referee.
This tells you it was a pre-planned and pre-meditated phsycological and racial tactics that the
Italians used against the French to expell a French player and consequently win this
Championship. FIFA is fighting a fierce battle right now against racism in football so I'm
absolutely convinced that when the facts come out, Italy will be stripped of the title!
Finally, this should be a lesson to African players. If they ever want to win this cup they
should be prepared to receive racial slurrs on the field without taking physical action.

hmm...where did you find that out. because the coach and both players said that they arent saying anything. and ofcourse you cant rely on his team mate. do u honestly think he will tell them what happened if it didnt make Materazzi look bad. dont believe it till it comes out of Zidanes mouth.
