You are not talking to an honest person and she gives the identity that she thinks will draw attention. If it happened to me then I would stop the chat.

Maybe she is hiding her true self from you becuz She's not comfortable. Maybe she wants to feel you out first before she lays the heavy stuff on you. I know when I chat online I don't give everyone all my personal information. I don't reveal my past, my family, or anything that personal till I know for sure they are the one who truely cares about me. Whether it be a friend or more then friend relationship.
If you truely care for this person then give her time. Time to feel completely comfortable w/ you. Don't judge her becuz she may have given you false information. Be patient eventually she will tell you all the things you need to know.

Chat friends are different from real friends. People when generally give information to others over chat, do not part with 100% information. All of us have fear that someone would misuse our data. To be safe than sorry we behave like this. In your case you try to find out that whatever things she/he had hid about her/him were of any importance or not. If there they are of no major or serious nature than you can still be good friends with her/him. If you feel that some important details were delibrately hid from you then you must thing again or keep safe distance in communication. Atleast you can be careful in future communication.

have you tried asking her WHY she does it? some do it to protect their privacy (as we all do). friendship is all about trust. time can give you that. respect her need for privacy. let her know how you feel about her not telling you the truth. though i can never understand why people try to hide a part of themselves on the net...why not just tell the other person not to talk about it? which is way too much easier. eventually we open up and learn to trust and respect each other more. best wishes for you and your friend.

We have all been warned about sharing true identity and personal information over the Internet. How can she be sure you are who you say you are? If you are only Internet chat friends, you can share your feelings without divulging certain information. It may not mean she is lying, but merely protecting herself.

if it's just a friend i wouldn't worry about it. if you love her as a friend does it really matter if she lied about her name, where she lived, her brother's age or what she studied. i think you can give a lil more for a friend than if she was a lover but even then maybe some of it was to protect herself until she knew she could trust you. are you her friend for what's inside or all the background info

I can understand the need to give false information to people you meet on the internet, because you never REALLY know who they are. I grew up in kind of a paranoid household, and this behavior was normal.

i recently had a female chat friend. she said she was single. actually, she has been separated from hubby for two years, she is having a two year affair with a married man. there is more to it. she lied and lied some more. eventually i will forgive her, but now it hurts because i thought we had a future together. i hope that answers your question.

I believe it should be based on what she's lying to you about. Maybe she likes to go online and impress people by living out a fantasy life that she cannot obtain in the real world. I'd definately check her credentials before you commit to giving her your personal info. she could be lying to you!

Just be a friend and in time to come when she realises that you are a friend for keeps she might reveal her true self to you.It is her right to reserve any information that she feels is inadequate or maybe she tried to keep her personal details to herself......whatever it is a true friend understand.
