I believe Reagan is the greatest humanitarian of all time. He has liberated people from eastern europe to latin america. He also helped weaking communism world wide. Reagan also helped spent alot of time helping trying to fund money for curing diseases. I think Reagan is the smartest and the most nobel person in the history of mankind. As well as an unbelievablly great president.

Sorry, but you are wrong. Reagan did more to hamper human rights than to help. He really didn't have much to do with the fall od totalatarianism in eastern europe, the economic colapse of the Soviet Union has nothing to do with US policy. In latin America he made a mess that is still very problematic. As a President, he was very popular, but I don't believe that he was a great President, perhaps above average, but he didn't do as good of a job as many people think. The main reason is his funding of terrorists in the middle east that now are called Al Queda, and his funding of latin American terrorist groups. The Iran/Contra disaster paved the way for 9/11 and his mismanagement in the Air Traffic controller strike also hleped to open the door for many Air disasters. He cut funding for education. He dismantled many social programs, and began the diversion of Social Security funding that has put that program in a lurch today. His deregulation of Health Insurance and other quality of life commercial businesses has paved the way for higher cost of living hampering the poor. Only the rich really prospered under Reagans policies, so therefor how could he be considered a great humanitarian or a great President?

Reagan was pretty good. I can't say "greatest" because there are other humanitarians that we could always consider. Two former presidents I can think of. Kennedy started the Peace Corps...but you can't give out the "greatest humanitarian" award simply because of that. Jimmy Carter is another. He may not have been a great president, but the man is something like 80 years old and still helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity. He's even won a Nobel Prize, so you have to consider him as well.
Reagan as a great president? Don't know about that, I was just a kid during his presidency. But I do seem to remember there was almost a mini-depression during the '80s. My father had to work three jobs at one time because of it. You also have to consider this...if he weakened communism, he put communists out of work. Even though it's great that communism was defeated, you can't give the "greatest humanitarian of all time" award out to someone who put people out of work...unless it was some evil soul, it makes no difference who they are.

Ronald Reagan was an actor known chiefly for his role in a b-movie entitled "Bonzo Goes to Washington" - or some insipid title like that. He read his lines well, followed direction, and never missed a cue.

It was his GOP leadership that made secret deals with the Iranians, who agreed not to release American hostages until Reagon was President. Do you think it was just coincidence that those hostages were flying to freedom as Reagan was making his inauguration speech? And, instead of bringing Jimmy Carter to the podium where they could raise hands and share in the victory, Reagan selfishly, boorishly took all the credit for himself, even though it was Carter who sacrificed his political career for the sake of our hostages.

It was his administration that dreamed up "trickle-down" economics wherein the rich kept all the money and pissed on the rest of us.

It was his military confab that dreamed up the IranContra affair.

Reagan's greatest contribution to humanity was when he "forgot to duck" - had his assassination attempt succeeded, we would have had to endure another endless round of conspiracy theorists about how and why our 'enemies' killed him.

Like all contemporary sitting presidents, Reagan sometimes was in the right place at the right time. But don't give him credit for ending the Cold War; that ended because of the Soviet Union's own internal collapse.

Reagan was unbelievable, alright - it was as unbelievable that he could beguile voters into electing him to two terms as it is to believe that George W. Bush could con Americans into letting him serve two terms. Both men were incompetent, ran evil and corrupt administrations, and did nothing to advance the cause of humanity. Reagan was just a better actor, which made him more believeable as "the great communicator". -RKO-

While I think Reagan was good for the US and the world in general, there were many in the 20th century that will be considered greater humantiarians.

The top of my list would be Mother Teresa, close second Gandhi.

What a joke Ronnie as humanitarian! He had little concern for middle class of this country during 8 years he was acting as president. The rich benefited from his tax polices, he ignored the issue of AIDS traded weapons with Iran. It was Nancy who was running the country with help of psychics.

Fellow Conservative and Reagan supporter. I hate to inform you that you are wrong. Jesus was the greatest humanitarian, but buck up, RWR, came in a close second.
I jest. Of course your right. Jesus, being God and all, doesn't fit into your question.

Never know... time's not up yet and for what it is worth Regan wasn't THAT good - Iran Contra comes to mind. He was a great actor though and may that has you confused with great man of history...

And Russia - they just collapsed before we did from the cold war drag race on our economies - Regan just stepped on the gas a bit...
